Moon sign
Your Moon sign describes emotional needs and instinct. It comes from the Moon's position at birth, so date, time, and place make it more accurate than a Sun-sign horoscope.
What a Moon sign actually is
The Moon sign is the zodiac sign the Moon occupied at the moment of birth. In a natal chart it is the most common language for emotional needs, habit, and the private self — the part of you that does not wait for a speech. It is calculated from a real lunar position, not from a personality quiz.
Because the Moon moves about thirteen degrees a day and changes sign every two to three days, people born on the same date can have different Moon signs if they were born on either side of a sign change. A birth time removes that guess.
Moon sign vs Sun sign vs rising sign
The Sun sign is the date-of-birth identity most horoscopes use. The rising sign is the sign on the eastern horizon and needs an exact time. The Moon sits between them: more intimate than the Sun, less structural than the ascendant, and fast enough that a wrong day — or a wrong hour near a sign change — will get it wrong.
Read the three together. A Moon sign without the Sun and rising is still only one instrument.
How to use it without turning it into a mood label
Look at the Moon's house and its aspects as well as the sign. A Moon conjunct Saturn has a different emotional contract from a Moon trine Venus, even in the same sign. The house tells you where the need shows up: home, work, partnership, the inner life.
A Moon sign does not predict your day. Transits to the natal Moon describe weather. The natal Moon describes climate. Calculate a full birth chart to see both.
